Bertie why can a company producing so called renewable energy sell the energy twice? once through power purchase agreement and then sell a green certificate to someone, last time i looked electricity companies were polluters through the burning of coal so your point there is mute.
Green certificates are nothing more than a scam on the public, everyone knows that you cant get renewable energy 100% of the time, both solar and wind suffer from this problem, unless your prepared to develop geothermal energy sources that can be run all the time then in reality you are wasting your time with green certificates as there is no reliability in supply and obviously the energy you are receiving is not really coming from a renewable source.
If your silly enough to want to purchase green energy and pay extra for it, but really not be contributing anything towards reducing pollution then the world is on a downward spiral at a rapid rate.

Wind turbines are nothing more than a con! they place a unnecessary strain on the power grid(when they work)
Do Absolutly nothing to contribute to c02 reduction as no one really ever knows when they will work so they must be backed up all the time. It would be very interesting to see how many coal and gas fired power stations have been slowed down or turned off due to wind, from the figures available it looks like none have ever been.
What a con, nothing but a waste of taxpayers money, you can bet this will blow up in the face of Mr Brumby at the next election!!!

Bertie it looks like your missing all the facts and figures. You can buy as many of those green certificates as you want but the real fact is that your not getting renewable energy when you buy them. Your getting the same energy as everyone else. Even the most ardent renewables supporter knows that at the moment no renewables run all the time.
Green certificates, just like wind power are a total fraud, something that only benefits a small minority financially but does nothing for energy security and costs a fortune for no benefit.
I refuse to use renewable energy that supposedly comes from a large provider, i have no problems being self sufficient and actually saving myself some money.

Bertie, you might as well turn everything off if your only going to rely on renewable energy, especially if it comes from a wind farm as you would never know when the wind will blow.
Wouldnt it be lovely to come home from work and the freezer has defrosted and a few hundred dollars worth of food gone off, not to mention having warm beer...
No thanks, but then you really know that the energy you are getting is coming from coal, so the point about reducing emmisions is dead to.

Last June, Windaction.org commented on the US Department of Energy's report "20% Wind Power by 2030" touting wind power could supply 20% of the US electricity needs by 2030. Buried in the document was a remarkable admission - that wind power cannot replace the need for many "capacity resources", i.e. those generators that supply electricity during periods when we need it. In other words, while utilities are obligated to provide electricity, instantaneously, when customers demand it, wind does not, nor can it ever, do that.
We liken wind energy to the wayward child. It's unavailable when needed, shows up when unexpected, and when it does arrive it often behaves erratically. Thus, the wind cannot be relied on as a primary fuel source.

As installed wind capacity increases on the grid, up to ninety-percent of this amount may be required in the form of redundant, backup generation from more reliable sources (coal, gas) to ensure supply when the winds die out. Without such redundant power plants, utilities will not be able to meet peak demand, and grid reliability will be compromised.

Today, wind proponents are advocating we populate our rural open spaces, ridge tops, and coastal areas with thousands of massive turbines and added infrastructure (transmission). The impacts of this development on the natural environment and on those living near the towers are far from understood. The need for independent, unbiased study is crucial.

Yet, if the public knew what the DOE already knows -- that no number of towers erected would result in the decommissioning of an existing power plant, nor will they negate the need to build new, reliable generation - would they tolerate the potential harm these turbines cause? We highly doubt it.

Paul: Green certificates aren't sold to polluters, they are sold to retailers who sell them to us as green power. This lets us, the public, buy power that is 100% carbon neutral. Most people can reduce their power consumption by 10-20%, but to eliminate emissions you need to either turn everything off (are u going to?) or use renewable energy. Renewable energy needs the certificate scheme for as long as coal and gas are so cheap. What facts and figures am I missing?

Only the weak succumb to the urge of payment for towers that will ultimatly be their greatest mistake.
To cover a protected area in useless costly towers is the ultimate in enviromental vandalism. Much more so than yellow signs that those concerned so proudly display to warn of the pitfalls of these hairbrained projects.
If one is more concerned about a few signs and doesnt have the fortitude to want to protect a beautiful area like the rest of the community then their appreciation of the area must not be as high as they pretend it to be.
Anyone who needs to try to denigrate the rightful actions of others is weak and unjust. Anyone who promotes fraudulent activities and uses false figures to try to gain financially is scum.

Bertie, Id rather do something to reduce emmisions rather than let wind farm operators sell so called green certificates to polluters so that they can continue to release pollutants into the atmosphere. Green certificates are nothing more than a scam that consumers pay for in the end, and for what result? none it would seem when you look at the facts and figures.

From this site:
We demand, as within our rights as residents of the Spa Country, that these questions be answered before we just simply hand over our beautiful landscape to these outside developers.

beautiful landscape?? Well it used to be until all those ugly yellow signs/trucks appeared in the paddocks and have stayed for the last couple of years. They're more of an eyesore than any wind turbine could possibly be!!
